50 Years of Laser Alignment Experience

More than 5 decades of experience goes into every product!

Still the trailblazer! Founded in 1967 by Martin Hamar, a brilliant Cornell-educated engineer and laser alignment pioneer, and the holder of 28 U.S. and foreign patents, Hamar Laser still sets the standard in our industry after more than five decades. After 50 years we are still a family-owned and operated business and can provide our customers with an extremely high level of personal service. Read more about our story below…

We Live and Breathe Accuracy

At Hamar Laser Instruments, we live and breathe accuracy

World’s most accurate alignment lasers!   We started in the machine-tool industry where high accuracy is a must for good part quality. To meet this challenge, we constantly had to improve our designs from the data we learned from field demonstrations, testing and trials.  This set the stage for us to branch out to other industries, where typically accuracies were not as high but are a challenge nevertheless. Yes, we may offer systems that are too accurate for some applications but why settle for a system that merely “meets” your tolerances versus one that easily surpasses it? Try a Hamar and you’ll see why we say we “live and breathe accuracy” and why accuracy matters!

World’s Flattest Laser Plane

“A workman is only as his good as his tools…”

Engineered to be ultra-precise! Hamar Laser’s Ultra-Precision Series Laser Alignment Systems (our L-743, L-742, L-741 and L-740) feature ultra-precise laser planes with a flatness of 0.5 arc second (.00003 in/ft or 0.0025 mm/m) in a 180º sweep and 0.25 arc second (.000015 in/ft or 0.001 mm/m) in a 90º sweep. That’s 4 times flatter than any other laser alignment system on the market today!

This helps to make our flagship L-743 Ultra-Precision Triple Scan® Laser Alignment System the most accurate and versatile alignment tool on the market today. This powerful, yet easy-to-use system is ideal for quickly and accurately checking and fixing the geometry of almost all machining centers and excels at many other demanding applications.

Innovative Designs for Specific Applications

Continuous leadership through relentless innovation

Solving alignment problems the right way!  Spending 50 years solving alignment problems, means “we’ve been there and done that”.  Instead of offering general “one-size-fits-all” alignment systems that are a weak fit for multiple applications, like some competing companies, Hamar Laser has always focused first on making the best system we can for a specific application, and only then adapting that system to other applications IF it makes sense.

Innovation and leadership are in our genes!   Across the years, Hamar Laser has focused on developing innovative solutions for a variety of challenging alignment problems, and we are widely recognized as having achieved numerous “firsts” in the industry, such as these historic achievements:

1973: Turbine Laser Alignment System
1974: Precision Laser Plane Technology
1976: Automatically Rotating Laser Plane
1981: 4-Axis Spindle Laser Alignment System
1990: 4-Axis Visible-Beam Shaft Alignment System
1992: Dual Scan® and Triple Scan® Laser Alignment System
1996: Self-Centering Bore Laser Alignment System
2003: Dual-Beam™ Shaft Laser Alignment System
2004: Groove-Mounted Pulley Alignment System
