The Auto-Buckin Laser and Base are mounted to a fixture and placed at a user-selected location in the aircraft floor area. Three wireless reference targets are placed in holding fixtures at locations that represent the "waterline" of the aircraft. Using manual controls on the keypad, the operator adjusts the laser until the laser spot can be seen at the approximate center of each reference target.

The operator then sets the laser in scanning mode and enables the auto-alignment mode of the laser base. The laser base computes the distance that each reference target is from the laser base and makes automatic adjustments to the pitch and roll axes to make the laser plane parallel to the reference targets. Finally, the laser base adjusts the laser-plane height so that it is at the zero location on the reference targets within a user-specified tolerance. From this point forward the laser base will keep the laser plane parallel to the "waterline" targets within a separate user-specified tolerance.

The operator now takes an A-1518M Measuring Target, which is fixed to a target stand and begins taking a series of measurements at the various shim locations. This data is fed into a spreadsheet program that reduces the data and makes the appropriate shim calculations.

All this is done using our robust frequency-modulated IR technology. This eliminates any cumbersome cabling being strung out throughout the aircraft floor area, which can interfere with the other workers performing their duties.
